Bleve
Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion
The “BLEVE” Phenomenon occurs when sealed containers of liquefied gases such as LPG are accidentally exposed and enveloped by fire. Vapor is generated and internal pressure rapidly rises. At the same time the temperature of the containers internal wall rises and the wall strength deteriorates and eventually, even though a pressure-relief valve may be operating, the stress impaired by the increased pressure exceeds the reduced strength of the wall. The container ruptures and superheated liquid is released, expands and vapourizes in seconds resulting in catastrophic damage from the spread of ignited vapours inside the container. Through the highly conductive No Explo material, the No Explo System can reduce the hazard of BLEVE when LPG containers are exposed to fire, spark or ignition. Rupture of the container is either prevented or delayed allowing the gaining of time to both evacuate the immediate area and emergency crews defeating the fire exposure.
